Initially, we met with the homeowners to go over plans to change the doors in the kitchen and ideas kept flowing. We looked at three different designs for the kitchen, and while going over the designs, the fourth hit me. I love the creative process in design, and working with Bert and Lou was incredible! They were onboard to truly change their space and we open to many ideas. Just before we started, it was decided we would replace the flooring in the whole house instead of just the kitchen, and the trim was changed as well.
Changing the fireplace was always something that was in the back of Bert’s mind, so we demolished the surround, but did not finalize the design until later in the project. Bert is country, Lou is city … I came up with the concept of the large bull-nose that could represent railway-tie size, but the clean taper with the angled sides made everyone happy!
I have been back since this renovation to do a small mantle for the basement fireplace and look forward to re-doing their rear deck!
When we decided to redo our kitchen we asked David Hutchison of Hutchison Design to give us some ideas to make our kitchen and living space something we could enjoy and feel comfortable in. We were impressed with his ability to continually refine his design to best suit our needs and wants. Moreover, we really enjoyed having David work in our house during the construction phase as he implemented the final design with expertise and professionalism and was transparent throughout to the entire process, finishing it in a timely manner. If something wasn’t quite right he insisted on making it right. The finished product is something we are very happy with and are very grateful to David. We have recommended him to neighbours and friends and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a professional and trustworthy contractor to create a functional and attractive finished product.
